”Top leaders would need  to change the overall attitude towards the workforce welfare in the new normal business”, according to  Mr. Amit Kumar, the Vice President & Business Head Metering & Protection Systems L&T Electrical & Automation (A Unit of Schneider Electric India Private Limited). Mr. Amit Kumar was addressing the audience during the inaugural function of the 9th International E-Conference on “Talent management and Leadership challenges in the New Normal Business” at SDMIMD held on 16-17 December 2021. 
 
While welcoming the gathering, Dr. N. R. Parasuraman, Director- SDMIMD, gave some anecdotes regarding the role of leadership in managing people for sustainable organizations. 
 
Earlier, while introducing the theme of the conference, Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, the Conference Chair, pointed out that in the new normal business, managing people is one of the major challenges for organizations, and thus, careful attention is to be paid towards the same.
 
Later, echoing a similar sentiment, Dr. Augustus Azariah, the “Vice President of Employee & Labour Relations for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa region”, Kyndryl (an IBM spinoff) stressed that , in the post-covid era, management needs to be more sensitive towards the employees’ psychological issues and substantial planning is needed in this regard. His address was part of a Distinguished Talk arranged in the conference.
 
In another Distinguished talk, Dr. Augustine, Chairman A C A Publishing House also spoke in the same line and emphasized on the need to take care of the people-related issues to facilitate in the process of corporate goal achievement. His speech was full of live examples and situational analysis
 
In the valedictory address on 17th December, , Mr. Vipin Kumar K C, Chief Human Resources Officer, Jindal Aluminium Ltd. has stressed on the requirement of modifying the company practices, for the hybrid workforce.  He also stressed on the point that the leaders need to be learners and coaches and need to redefine the performance goals of the employees, in order to do business in the new normal era. 
 
Dr. S. N. Prasad, Deputy Director – SDMIMD, stated that HR function would be very crucial for any organization in this uncertain environment.
 
The Conference was attended by more than 100 participants. Issues such as remote working, work life balance, online learning, stress management, motivation and leadership challenges, have been discussed.  
 

Prior to the conference, an online workshop was also organized on “Team building, conflict management and leadership issues in the post-covid era”, on 15 December 2021.

Award to SDMIMD Toastmasters Club

SDMIMD Toastmaster club achieved the President's Distinguished Club award - the highest level of recognition. The club met the membership prerequisite and achieved nine of the 10 goals. SDMIMD Toastmasters Club is dedicated to Toastmasters International's purpose and vision, as well as the principles and ethics of the home institute, SDMIMD, which sets the club apart from other clubs

Visit of University of Montevideo Student

As a part of the international exchange arrangement, SDMIMD hosted a group of students from the University of Montevideo, Uruguay, South America, who participated in a week long academic exchange program. They were accompanied by a faculty member, Dr. Carlos Folle, Professor of Strategy and Marketing, in that university. The group enjoyed the ambience and hospitality of SDM IMD in Mysore, and actively participated in a variety of activities exclusively arranged for them.
 
The faculty of SDMIMD conducted special sessions to the students related to courses like Finance, Operations, Marketing, Human Resources, Information Technology, Managerial Communication, and general management. The class sessions were held in the morning every day and in the afternoon, the students were taken on an industry or corporate visit. They visited a few industries in Mysore, and had a good exposure to the corporate culture in India, and management practices. They also visited the Mysore office of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, popularly known as SKDRDP,. The students got all the information about the social responsibility initiatives and rural development by interacting with the executives and personnel from the project group. Further, the students worked on group projects by collaborating with the second year PGDM students of SDMIMD, under the guidance of the faculty.
 
The program was overall coordinated by Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean – Academics, and Professor of Operations Management.
