Leadership Development Programme for Sundaram Home Finance Ltd., Senior Executives

Twenty senior management executives from Sundaram Home Finance participated in a weeklong Management Development Program (MDP) on Leadership Development: Aspire and Strategize for Higher Achievement (ASHA) at SDMIMD, Mysore, from August 12th to 17th, 2024. The program was inaugurated by Dr. S.N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, and Ms. Mini Sympson, Head of HR for Emerging Business and Talent Acquisition at Sundaram Home Finance.
 
Following the inaugural session, Mr. Lakshminarayanan Duraiswamy, Managing Director of Sundaram Home Finance, addressed the participants and actively engaged in the sessions conducted on Day 1. Over the course of five days, faculty members from SDMIMD, including Dr. Prasad SN, Dr. Kannadas S, Dr. M. Sriram, Dr. Vasumathi Hariharan, Dr. Neetu Ganapathy, Dr. L. Gandhi, Dr. Srilakshminarayana, and Dr. K. Riyaz Ahmed, delivered sessions on finance, people management, leadership, communication, and data-driven decision-making.
 
The program concluded on August 17th with a valedictory function that included participant feedback, certificate distribution, and an address by Mr. Ganapathi Subramanian, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Sundaram Home Finance. The participants, along with Ms. Sriranga, Program Coordinator from Sundaram Home’s HR department, expressed high appreciation for the program. The MDP was coordinated under the supervision of Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, Chairperson of Corporate and External Training Programs at SDMIMD, Mysore.

Australian guests at SDMIMD

Dr. Jeremy Novak, Vice Chancellor of Global Development College (GDC),  Australia and Brig. Gen. (Rtd.) Eric Tan, Board Member,  Global Development College,  Australia made a visit to SDMIMD on 14 August 2024. From SDMIMD, Dr. S. N. Prasad, Director, Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Dean - International Relations, and Dr. Anand Sasikumar, Asst. Professor, were present in the meeting. Several possibilities of academic collaborations between SDMIMD and GDC  have been explored and discussed.

Overview of IT Product Industry & Product Life Cycle by Mr. Prasanna Kumar N

On August 12th, SDMIMD hosted a guest lecture by Mr. Prasanna Kumar N., who provided an overview of the IT Product Industry and Product Life Cycle. He discussed challenges in the introduction phase and the importance of innovation for market acceptance. In the growth phase, he emphasized scaling operations and enhancing features. For the maturity phase, he highlighted strategies to optimize processes and sustain market share. The lecture concluded with a discussion on rejuvenating or phasing out products in the decline phase. He also stressed the need for agile development in response to rapid technological advancements.

FDP on Analysing the Research Landscape

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Analysing the Research Landscape: Bibliometric Techniques for Engineering and Management Applications” was held on August 3, 2024, at SDMIMD. This comprehensive training was aimed at equipping faculty members and researchers from engineering and management disciplines with bibliometric techniques to enhance their research productivity, impact, and evaluation. Participants learned about various reference management tools, data sources, and bibliometric software like VOSviewer and BiblioShiny. The resource persons, Dr Sunil MV and Dr. Anand Sasikumar conducted engaging sessions on the practical applications of these tools in academic research.

Budget Conclave: Post-Budget Analysis by Experts

SDMIMD Mysore hosted a conclave on July 29, 2024 to deliberate on the Union Budget 2024-25 in collaboration of CII Mysuru, with PWC serving as the knowledge partner. The event featured insights from prominent industry experts and eminent academicians.
 
Mr. Eashwar Rao V, Chairperson, CII Mysore zone while highlighting the key aspects of the budget, said that it was an inclusive budget. Dr. (Lt Col) S N Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, Mysuru, termed the budget forward-looking and future-oriented. Mr. S Ranganathan, Convenor of CII Mysuru Finance & Taxation Panel spoke highlighting the initiatives for MSMEs and discussed the implications of short-term and long-term capital gains. 
 
Partners from PWC, including Ms. Prajwala Pai, Mr. Vishal Krishnam, Mr. Keshav Mundhra, and Mr. Ravi Kumar Bhatia, shared perspectives on the tax revisions proposed in the Budget. They felt that a rise in security transaction tax may restrict speculative trading infusing greater stability to the market. An increase in short-term capital gains tax was termed undesirable as this would affect the interest of the middle asset class.
 
The conclave had a panel discussion on the implication of the budget proposals on the key sectors and sections of the economy featuring experts from different domains. Dr Venkatraja, Associate Professor of Economics at SDMIMD Mysore said that budget emphasis would boost agriculture but income disparity among the farmers is still a challenge. Prof. Shyamsundar from NIE Mysore said that the budget would contribute to the much-needed energy transition and sustained future. Prof. Girish Gopalarao, Associate Professor, SDMIMD Mysore believes that the budget would create an appropriate ecosystem need for IT and automotive sectors.   Mr. Sabareeshan, an Independent Director at BPL Ltd analysed the various budget provisions for the manufacturing sector. Mr. Vishal Krishnam, partner at PWC shed light on how BFSI sector could leverage the budget for more growth. Dr. S N Prasad moderated the discussions and appreciated the increasing allocations to the defense sector as this would accelerate the efforts of modernising and strengthening the defense forces.
 
The conclave also featured a brief presentation on the salient features of the union budget by the students of SDMIMD - Mr. Rajath, Ms. Monica, Ms. Shwetha Krishna and Mr. Naman. Dr B Venkatraja delivered a welcome address and highlighted the key features of the budget. The conclave was witnessed by industry leaders, practitioners, academicians, and students. 

Customized Executive Development Programme (CEDP) Valedictory Ceremony

On July 22, 2024, SDMIMD, Mysore, hosted the final session and valedictory function of the Customized Executive Development Programme (CEDP) for the executives of Wuerth Elektronik India. During the valedictory ceremony, Mr. Harsha Adya, Managing Director of Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd., and Dr. S.N. Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, were present.
 
In his valedictory address, Mr. Harsha Adya emphasized the significance of learning and development as a means of advancing the careers of the selected employees. He encouraged the participants to focus on their key areas: working on short-term projects for organizational and self-development, aligning with the company's vision and mission, and developing their team members for succession planning.
 
Dr. S.N. Prasad stressed the importance of managerial styles, environmental analysis, and developing decision-making skills in challenging business scenarios. He urged the participants to utilize the knowledge gained through this program in their day-to-day work to progress faster in their professional careers. The Wuerth Elektronik Business Unit heads and HR team, along with faculty resource persons from SDMIMD, Mysore, attended the program.

He shared insights from his own career journey, focusing on the challenges of leadership and the strategies to overcome them. Capt. Dr. Vittal emphasized the importance of perseverance and adaptability in achieving career goals and navigating leadership roles. His session offered valuable lessons and motivation for students aiming to excel in their careers and leadership endeavors.

Talk on Key Beliefs and Values for Personal and Entrepreneurial Growth

Ms. Deepa Sriram, a renowned counselor from Bengaluru, presented an insightful talk on July 25, 2024, titled "Beliefs and Values that Matter." She explored the core beliefs and values essential for personal and professional growth, with a particular focus on entrepreneurship skills. Ms. Sriram highlighted how a strong value system and belief in oneself can significantly impact entrepreneurial success. Her session provided valuable guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Mr. Ravichandra Bekal's Inspiring Session on Social Responsibility

Mr. Ravichandra Bekal delivered a compelling session on July 24, 2024, focusing on social responsibility. He discussed the importance of contributing positively to society and how individuals and organizations can take meaningful actions to address social issues. He discussed the significance of innovation and how to spearhead major breakthroughs in the field. Mr. Chandrashekar emphasized the role of polymers and their applications, particularly focusing on opportunities for young students. His insights into leading innovation and exploring future prospects provided valuable guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs.
